Today’s construction and built environment professionals are increasingly being tasked with improving the efficiency and effectiveness of their projects by implementing building information management and modelling frameworks and the international standards that underpin them. The benefits these offers are enormous.
Organisations operating according to these frameworks and standards can add significant value through standardised practices, information interoperability and operational advances such as the use of digital twins. But this is a technical area that requires professionals who know what international standards and national frameworks demand and can plan for their correct implementation.
Successful learners will be able to:
- Distinguish between international information management standards and recognised implementation frameworks.
- Outline the terminology and processes adopted by the International Standard Organization 19650 series of standards and those employed in recognised implementation frameworks.
- Structure information management resources into a recognised implementation framework
The course is one of four that, in combination, cover the buildingSMART Foundation certification curriculum and competencies that address the concepts and benefits associated with information management and modelling. It serves as essential preparation for practitioners seeking buildingSMART Foundation accreditation through their examination (which is not included in this course).
This course will award you with 10 credits from the University of Nottingham Online. In order to successfully complete this course, you are expected to:
- Engage in approximately 7 hours a week of activity including directed, independent and interactive learning, as well as time to complete course tasks. This takes place over a period of 12 weeks.
- Work through the activities to sharpen your knowledge and understanding of the topic.
- Complete the following development tasks that will be assessed by the course tutor:
1) A standards adoption plan to support organisations operating in the built environment.
To support your learning there are five optional live (online) sessions:
- Welcome and Networking - dates TBC
- Progress Check-In - dates TBC
- Task Kick-Off - dates TBC
- Task Review - dates TBC
- Wrap-Up & Feedback - dates TBC
This course is suitable for professionals who are tasked with the implementation and delivery of information management using recognised standards and frameworks. It is especially useful for those involved in data and information management compliance and assurance roles, or those tasked with improving the capability of organisations to deliver value from data and digital by enhancing efficiency and competitiveness.
